Addressing the gaps and challenges in research involving populations experiencing poverty

The Impoverished Populations - Community of Interest (CoI) invites you to join us for a webinar marking the CoI's launch while showcasing important research focusing on poverty and complex health and community support needs in a rapid-fire presentation format.

Alex Abramovich, Dr. Andrew Boozary, Dr. Amy Gajaria and Nick Kerman will share their work and diverse perspectives on some of the most critical challenges they faced when trying to tackle the root causes of complex issues such as housing and homelessness, involvement with the criminal justice system, as well as strategies that are needed to address these issues.

According to the World Health Organization, alcohol use is a significant risk factor for suicide, which ranks among the leading causes of death worldwide. However, alcohol use is commonly overlooked in suicide prevention programs and policies by clinicians, researchers and policy-makers. A pilot study is examining the potential of the psychedelic agent, psilocybin, to treat people diagnosed with both major depressive disorder (MDD) and alcohol use disorder (AUD). The Provincial System Support Program (PSSP) at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is pleased to invite organizations to submit proposals to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate problem gambling awareness and/or counselling programs and services for immigrants, refugees and ethnocultural populations in Ontario.
